The large hubs of Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, and others are well known but few have heard of Fort Smith, Florence or Valdosta Regional airports unless they live in the geographic region. Smaller airports are critical connections in commercial airline service but leadership often has the impression they have little influence over airline levels of service.
Identify a small airport fitting the above criteria and served by only one airline.
Conduct a SWOT analysis of your chosen airport. In addition, determine the airport’s primary competitor and conduct a competitor analysis to include the following:
· Flight frequencies, seasonal vs. year-round
· Alternative/Combination transportation: port, rail
· Significant events affecting airport traffic (construction, congestion, distance)
· Substantial sporting tournaments or events
· Other significant events – state fairs, trade shows, etc.
· Military base – personnel movements
Note: Both the SWOT analysis and Competitor analysis may be presented in a table format. However, be sure to include an overview in an opening paragraph and in a closing paragraph. Make sure that you summarize the results.
